High School A-La-Carte

Flexible course options for grades 8 through High School, allowing students to enroll in individual classes based on their academic goals.

Math

  • Algebra I: Uses Denison Math to provide clear, confidence-building instruction designed for retention and mastery. Pre-Algebra is a prerequisite.
  • Geometry: Uses Denison Math with clear, easy-to-understand lessons that help students build confidence and strengthen math mastery.

Language Arts

  • Language Arts: Literature-based instruction that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and a love of learning.
  • English II: Includes novels, short stories, poetry, nonfiction, drama, and informational texts while building reading, writing, and analysis skills.

Science

  • Physical Science with Lab: Covers motion, forces, energy, matter, and chemical reactions through hands-on laboratory experiments.
  • Biology I with Lab: Introduces living systems, scientific inquiry, and the structure and function of living organisms.

History

  • World History & Geography: Uses Notgrass History Book 2 to study how culture, history, and geography shape societies.
  • U.S. History: Explores the story of our nation from its beginnings to modern times.

World Language

  • Spanish I & II: Provides an engaging experience for second-language acquisition using Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling.

Electives

  • HOPE: A health and physical education course that promotes wellness, fitness, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Art History: Explores artists from around the world while giving students opportunities to create art inspired by different cultures.
  • Finance: Uses a life-simulation approach to help students apply money lessons to real-world decisions.
  • Public Speaking: Helps students prepare and deliver speeches while building communication confidence.
  • Life Management Skills: Focuses on independent living, responsible decision-making, and essential life skills.
  • SAT/ACT Critical Thinking: Covers algebra, problem solving, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and test strategies.

Academic Support

  • Study Hall: Structured time for students to work independently or receive help from teachers.
